Famicom Detective Club Guide – Walkthrough, Tips and Tricks

Main picture

After many years as Japanese-only adventure games released for Famicom Disk System, Famicom Detective Club: The Missing Heir and Famicom Detective Club: The Girl Standing Behind were remade and brought to the West for the first time with a new location. Want to know which one to play first or just need help with the story? You are in the right place.

We really enjoyed the Famicom Detective Club games (and you can read our reviews for The missing heir and The girl standing behind separately if you don’t want spoilers yet), but, being story-based adventure games that are over thirty years old, the games have a few … idiosyncracies that sometimes make it difficult to progress. If you are looking for tips, tricks, and walkthroughs to guide you through the game, look no further!

(If you don’t want spoilers, look no further. Shoo.)

Basic tips

[Character] won’t talk to me, but I can’t leave!

Hibino

Try to watch them, call them, and examine nearby objects.

If you ask them about something in particular and the conversation seems to end on a cliffhanger, think about the topic you already have that might keep them telling you the story.

If that doesn’t work, ask them the same questions again. If you get a new dialogue for one of them, interrogate it a third time. In case.

Sometimes you will need to “call” people nearby to get them to introduce themselves.

And remember: “Think” or “Remember” (depending on what game you’re playing) is always a viable option. Sometimes this will give you clues as to where to go next, so be careful what the character is saying – for example, he may be wondering about the time, which should prompt you to “examine” a nearby clock.

What is the notebook about?

It’s a movie starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams. No, we’re just joshing.

The Famicom Detective Club notebook has all the information and clues you’ve found so far, but the game will never force you to read it in order to move forward – it’s mainly so that you can follow the story. and remind you who everyone is.

How do I know which chapter I’m in?

Select “Quit Survey” and save your game. He will tell you which chapter you are on!

Should I play The Missing Heir or The Girl Who Stands Behind first?

Ayumi

It doesn’t really matter – The Missing Heir came out first, so it’s the one we played first, but The Girl Who Stands Behind is a prequel. You can play them in any order!

If we had to recommend one to start with, we’d probably say the sequel, “The Girl Standing Behind,” just so you can get to know the characters that end up in both games, but that really doesn’t do much. ‘a difference.

Both games will check if you have a save file for the other game at the start, but that’s just to see if you’ve already named your character. Don’t worry, the plot won’t change depending on which you play first.

My text box is gone! Aaaah!

Do not panic. You’ve probably just pressed “B”. Tap again and the text box will come back.

Sometimes the game gives me two choices – does it matter which one I choose? Will the story change?

Most of these choices will change history very slightly, but not in the long run. You can just do things in a slightly different order, for example, but you won’t miss a vital clue by doing things differently. Follow your heart!

Why is the lead detective in these murder cases a literal child?

WE DO NOT KNOW. It’s a bit weird that a 15/17 year old can look at corpses for a living!
